Claire & Martin were wed in 2011 and I had the pleasure of being their wedding photographer on that glorious day. When I heard that they were expecting, my first thought was to giggle at the idea of them dancing with their new baby! Claire & Martin are awesome, passionate dancers – and im not talking professional – im just saying – they love to dance! Im sure they approach life with the same passion and Im excited to see their family grow!

We had been watching the weather for weeks hoping for at least a clear day – that day eventually arrived with some last minute juggling and we scooted out to Burnaby Village Museum (Heritage Park) for photos to blend rustic elements and the Christmas Spirit!

Their photos reflect their love, humour, and good nature – their baby will be blessed with two dedicated, caring parents. Its tempting to go all stylized over maternity photos – but my style lends itself to clarity and candid – natural poses in natural environments!

I want couples to remember how much they smiled at each other – those long sleepness nights are, afterall, ahead of them. I want them to remember what it felt like to have the swell of life between them, soon to be replaced by a small mini-them. And I want them to remember how they got where they did – knocked up & lovin it!

Its like sqeezing out that last bit of toothpaste, or shaking one more drop of ketchup from the bottle – we have a sense of completeness unfulfilled. And thats how the three of us happened to be standing by a tree, poking our heads into the branches and making strange animal noises.

Bear Creek Park Portraits with Gia

We were trying to convince Gia that there were Llamas in the buses – we were coaxing one more smile from her tired, cold body and apparently, Llamas were quite the hit. So after watching the two adults make crazy gestures, sounds, and faces – Gia bent into the branches to look for Llamas. We got that one last smile – but the day did start off much easier!

I met Gia last year for her Xmas photos – we create a great template of her & mum to be printed & mailed. Alot cheaper than using the templates at the local print shop and customized to her vision. This March, Gia came out for some photos in the park just before her birthday.

The pleasure of flying through the air should never leave us!

She had alot of fun, as all 2 year olds do, picking up tiny rocks & throwing them. Her energy was boundless – even after a tumble or two. We blew bubbles, flew a kite, tossed coins into a fountain, and, yes, applied lotion to flowers (ahh its a kid thing!).

Of course – no children photography session is complete without mud on the knees or some other messy mishap. But with a little touch of editing, Photoshop, and a patient hand – these ooops dont have to appear on your favourite enlargement / print.

I know! I KNOW! Its almost March 31st. I will wait until next week to Panic. And im not even sure if Ive got the right towel! How did February get here so fast!

Dear February – I had so many plans for you that included – basically – nothing but the quiet, contemplative, structured review of my income, but overwhelmingly, my expenses from last year. A slow, slip-by-slip of paper receipts, scribbled & scrawled on, invoices with giant, red PAID stamps, and my trusty excel spreadsheets. But alas…..

Its not even Valentines day (as if that matters to my calendar-deficient hubby), and I still havent done anything tax related! I know the tax man doesnt care about headshots, birthday-suited babies, family adventures, or corporate functions – but ive been so busy with all these fun projects these last – uh – I want to say couple of weeks – few days – and more is on its way…that Ive neglected my tax-time duties.

Baby’s First Christmas

Its been a busy month of babies and Im guilty of enjoying it – there is something warm and wonderful about holding a baby that I just love. I love to hold their tiny feet, when they grasp my fingers, when I kiss their fuzzy heads, and rock them when they cry.

I fall in love with them for that short moment in time that I get to celebrate their life with my camera. I can look back on those photos and remember the way it was to be with them.

I remember the laughs and tears I shared with the parents – the understanding of one mother to another – and the love of the father, grandparents, and siblings. They open their homes to me – a stranger – and we share a very intimate time together.

They trust me with their baby and the memories that I offer them.

I love my time with these babies and I love coming home to my own. Here are just a few of my December babies – a gift – the pleasure of remembering the babies in our own lives.

Tiny Blessings – Baby Brooklyn

Today, amidst the sun and rain and snow, I met up with R & her two daughters – both under 2 and she is expecting another next year. She is a very brave and patient mom already – the third will bring more smiles in return for her sleepness nights.

Baby Brooklyn was the star of the photoshoot today and she was so patient with the in-ing and out-ing of blankets and baskets. The tiniest mewing was all we heard when she started to get uncomfortable.

And, for now, as all babies are, she will tolerate her big sister grabbing all the cool xmas toys out of her hands.
